To no one’s surprise, Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn, under challenge by U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor and others, submitted to the Ice Bucket Challenge at Water Works Park. The cash and cachet phenomenon was a perfect Buckhornian storm.
First and foremost, it further helped raise awareness and dollars for ALS. And it gave extra media attention to Water Works Park. Plus, it was a high-profile occasion for the usually well-pressed, not-always-politically-nuanced mayor to don a Rays jersey.
