Dem Notes

* “There’s nothing domestically more important than voting rights.”–President Joe Biden.

* We knew it wasn’t going to be good news when politically immoderate Sen. Joe Manchin dropped by Fox News Sunday for an update of his opposition to the nearly $2 trillion Build Back Better bill. “I can’t get there,” stated Manchin. “This is a no.”

* The Biden Administration was more than disappointed and upset with the West Virginia senator. It sounded betrayed. “Just as Sen. Manchin reversed his position on Build Back Better, we will continue to press him to see if he will reverse his position yet again, to honor his prior commitments and be true to his word.”–That was WH press secretary Jen Psaki. And, no, (filibuster-workaround) reconciliation doesn’t matter without Democratic Senate unity.

* The State Department has launched an official Spotify account for Secretary of State Antony Blinken. And the public, for whatever reason, can now listen to Blinken’s road trip playlist. For example, his trip to the G-7 Foreign and Development Ministers Meeting in Liverpool, UK, kicked off with the Beatles’ “Penny Lane.” That was more diplomatic and positive than, say, the Beatles’ “Please Please Me” or “Nowhere Man.”
